2012

i couldn't pick a favorite picture from 2012
i couldn't even pick a top 5...or a top 10...narrowing it down to 40 was hard

i think it's because this little girl made most every day so much fun!
and if the last two months of 2012 are any indication then i don't think 2013 is going to be any different. the best part of having a partner, in this whole parenting thing, is knowing there is one other person out there who loves your child as much as you do. i must call CJ 100 times a day to tell him all about something she's said or done. i can't believe she'll be two next month!

peace out 2012

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

the days between today and thanksgiving have been crazy
full of love, loss, and life

on thanksgiving eve my papa was pulled over, at midnight, driving the wrong way on the freeway
he didn't know where he had been, where he was going, or even where he was at the time
my sweet gramma was in the car with him and the police officer was still shaken from the whole thing when i spoke to him about it the next day
we still don't know much about that night
but he's had his license taken away and is in the process of accepting that he won't get it back
all things considered, thanksgiving ended up being a lovely day...

in december my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and niece came to visit for a week
while they were here our dog, Miss Taylor May, passed away peacefully in the garage
we were in the kitchen when my MIL said she saw a spirit walk from the garage into the backyard
and when she went in to the garage she found our sweet "Tookie Bomb"
we buried her in the backyard, in her beloved bed, with all her favorite snacks, we had a little burial in the backyard complete with a toast and we poured one out for our first baby
yesterday we planted wildflowers on her grave

a few days later we took SG on her first plane trip
we flew to Austin so we could visit CJ's grandma who has stage 4 breast cancer in her liver
she's receiving in home hospice care and we enjoyed every minute of our visit
but i can't put in to words what it is like to say goodbye to someone you know you'll never see again
this lady is an amazing example of love, life, and grace

we were barely back in San Diego long enough to unpack from our trip to Texas
when it was time to pack up the minivan and head up to Big Bear to play in the snow!
my father-in-law, and bonus mother-in-law, rented a cabin for a whole mess of us
it was just what we needed and not a moment too soon

on Monday we hurried back to San Diego in time for Christmas Eve with my family
it was a stressful mess to get there in time but i have never once (that i can recall) missed
Christmas Eve with my grandparents and this Christmas wasn't going to be an exception!

New Years Eve was perfect
we took SG for a ride around the neighborhood, in her new wagon, to get one last look at the lights
then we tucked her into bed, ordered a pizza, popped some champagne, and watched movies while i prepped everything for our big New Years Day family dinner
sometime between 10pm and midnight i must have dozed off because CJ woke me up at 12:01 to wish me a Happy New Year

here's to hoping the new Dora Rocks show is the most exciting part of January!
i am so ready for routine, the return of primetime tv, getting back into the gym, and just plain ole enjoying my everyday ordinary life

Trader Joe's Tuesday

Advent Calendar

this is a fun little calendar for kids. SG rarely gets chocolate so she's loving it!

Chocolate Star Cookies

these are cute for a party...
they definitely look cuter than they taste
i mean, i'll eat them but i'd rather have their kettle corn cookies or peppermint joe joe's

Holiday Teas

they aren't reinventing the wheel here
both of these are exactly what you'd expect and i'll definitely be stocking up on both

weekend in pictures

last week was a total blur
and when i think of everything i have going on right now
it starts to feel like this month has already come and gone
but, december is just getting started!
my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and niece fly in tomorrow and
i am so excited to dress the cousins up in matching jammies and watch them play
but this weekend i wanted to pause and make it a priority to have some fun with my little family
so saturday was all about my baby girl and her new best friend, Santa

(Samma, Santa gives out toys... not beads!)

i've been talking to her about Santa while we've been out and about and this weekend, it clicked! everywhere we went, when we'd see a Santa, she'd point and say "San-tuh! doggy!" i guess she thinks a reindeer is just a dog with antlers? maybe we'll work on Rudolph and Frosty next?
Saturday morning we took her to breakfast with Santa and she told me she was going to kiss him...

what.a.tease
if she wasn't going to smooch Santa she could have at least thrown a fit or had an epic meltdown because anything is better than a boring Santa picture, right?
hopefully she can be bribed into smiling next year

after breakfast with Santa we went straight to the farm to cut down our Christmas tree
i spent most of my time chasing SG through the trees, past the petting zoo, and into the hay
while my husband set out to find the perfect tree

when we got back home SG took a (much needed) nap while
CJ and I set up the tree, untangled the lights, and then settled in for the SEC championship game
thankfully, this little good luck charm woke up in time to cheer for our 2nd favorite SEC team
 ROLL TIDE!

CJ has the shingles, again, so after the game I took SG with me to Target so he could get a break
and we had the best time! she spent 30 minutes making Santa kiss Rudolph
and i could seriously listen to her say "muah"  and "san-tuh" all day long
she is at such a fun age right now and i seriously don't know anyone funnier than this girl

speaking of Target...
on saturday morning my sister braved the lines to shop the Neiman Marcus for Target collections
and she got SG the most adorable Jason Wu dress

i love it
but why does my 22 month old look like a tween?!?!
and where can i find her some cute shoes to go with this dress?
i'm having a hard time finding cute winter shoes that don't look like dr martens

Friday Five: Dear Santa

one

Last year I fell in love with Thymes Frasier Fir poured candle. It just smells like Christmas.
Unfortunately, my new job doesn't pay as well as my old one so at $32 for a 6.5 oz jar I needed to find an alternative. I have to tell you, I am obsessed with this candle! I got a 14.5 oz candle for $10 and, to my surprise, these candles are so much more fragrant than the pricier ones I've tried. It fills the whole house, without being overpowering, and the scent lasts long after you've blown the candle out.
I originally stocked up on these for Christmas gifts but I might end up keeping them all for myself.

How cute is this sweater? Dear Santa, I'll take the navy in medium

I am obsessed with this etsy shop full of Tom Binns inspired pieces.

i seriously want to put on a pair of these and not take them off until spring
